Are you an established couple looking to spend a winter working together in the Alps? No experience necessary – as we train you for all you need to know to do the job - you just need to have a great personality, plenty to talk about and a commitment to deliver fantastic customer service to our guests. Ski Amis is a long-established, family run business and has 20 catered chalets in the top resorts of the Three Valleys and Paradiski in France. We have a 50 strong team in resort and we take pride in our staff and the high quality service they provide – we expect you to work hard and be committed to delivering these levels of quality and in return we provide you with all the tools and support you need to make this task as easy as possible, with plenty of piste time guaranteed and a flexible remuneration package so you can make the most of your season.
We have several types of Chalet Couple roles depending on the size of the chalet - some couples in smaller chalets will also be drivers, whilst those in the larger chalets will work together all the time as chalet hosts although they will sometimes be called upon to drive as well. We also have premium chalets where we look for the most capable and experienced couples to provide a slightly higher level of service. When you apply it is as a Chalet Couple - you can make your preferences known to us but we don't allocate individual chalets or job roles until after the first week of training once we know your capabilities a bit better.
The chalet hosting part of the role will involve preparing and serving meals to the guests - essentially hosting a dinner party every night with a three or four course meal including wine. You will also be responsible for daily cleaning of the chalet - making beds, cleaning rooms and the general living areas, and the weekly turnaround of the chalet in between guests. All roles will also mean completing basic chalet administration tasks which include a weekly stock take and managing the mini bar, as well as maintaining the hot tubs and saunas (where appropriate) and general basic household maintenance tasks.
We operate with a fixed menu so you do not have to worry about budgets or planning - we make your life as easy as possible by doing all this for you in advance. You just have to follow the recipe book and kitchen plan provided - for which you will be fully trained - and the results will come automatically. For this reason, we do not require couples with experience in this type of role - or who have completed cookery courses or professional training of any sort - of course you must know your way around a kitchen and enjoy cooking but the most important thing is that you have a great personality and the commitment and social skills to be a wonderful host. The technical aspects of the job are all covered in our comprehensive in-house training course and cookery school which will be fully paid and run during the first three weeks of your employment.
For those in driver chalets, the driving part of the role is a varied one and includes transfer driving on changeover days to collect and deliver guests from airports and railway stations and transport them to their accommodation wherever that may be – we provide training in winter driving and you will be issued with a French professional driver’s licence (subject to a medical and a CRB check) which is valid for 5 years. During the week, drivers will work in the chalet with their partners and also support the Resort Manager with whatever tasks need to be completed – including in-resort transfers of guests to ski schools and restaurants, assisting with chalet cover for days off in other chalets, general maintenance and snow clearing.
Premium chalet couples are allocated to the best chalets and need to give just that little bit more of a polished service. The main menus are the same but you will also be preparing canapes and a cheeseboard each day with the evening meal. The premium chalet couples are paid a supplement on their basic salary.
Skills and Experience Required
For the driver roles, we are ideally looking for staff with previous experience of driving in a professional capacity - this could be minibuses with passengers or equally delivery vans or other roles which involve driving larger vehicles in connection with your job. We would need your previous employer to provide a letter confirming your specific driving experience. Other acceptable qualifications in place of experience would be a driver CPC as a result of driving coaches or trucks, a taxi licence or a RoSPA Advanced Driving Certificate.
All applicants MUST be over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes), have held a full EU driving licence for more than two years and be resident and working in the UK with an existing permanent NI number and tax record. You must be available for a face-to-face interview at our head office in Maidstone, Kent.
