We are looking for an established couple or a pair of friends to run a 22 – 30 bed Alpine Chalet in the spectacular Dolomites of northern Italy, in the Superski Dolomiti area.  

Collett's are a small, independent mountain holiday specialist, who have been operating in the Dolomites since 1998. We are looking for sociable, friendly and engaging people with a passion for food and a flair for cooking to join a small, friendly resort team, many of whom are returning staff, who know the chalets and the job well, and who would make the settling in period as easy as possible.

The Job

The chalet in question sleeps between 28 and 35 guests, and would entail cooking for up to 35-40 people, including staff. As well as the domestic management of the chalet (cleaning, food ordering etc.) you would be making breakfast, afternoon tea and a three course evening meal six days a week, with one full day off.

The emphasis is on creating a 'home from home' atmosphere and providing excellent home cooked food' to a dinner party standard: it has to be special. You would very much be at the heart of our guests' holiday, with one of you eating with them each evening, and looking after them as if they were staying in your own home.

You would need to be great team players, tolerant, understanding and empathetic. The chalet is run by a team of about 6 people, one of whom is the Chalet Manager. The rest of the team are the Ski Host/Walk Organisers who accompany our guests on Organised Snowshoe Walks and Ski Days. They are also your fellow Hosts' in the chalet, with as much responsibility to the day to day running and hospitality as you. On a day to day basis they take it in turns to help with the domestic management of the place: cleaning, washing up, dinner service etc.

The relationships and hopefully, friendships, which develop as a result of working and living so closely with your colleagues, are a big part of the seasonal experience for many people, and the sense of camaraderie and positive energy which is created is something our guests enjoy and comment on. 

If you have run chalets before and prefer to work alone in a kitchen, then this might not be your cup of tea. You have to embrace the team element of these chalets to make it work. What we offer to our guests could not be provided by two people alone.

Experience Required

One of you certainly needs to be a great cook or chef. We don't mind if you don't have formal qualifications but experience of cooking for numbers, particularly in a chalet situation, would then be vital.

Your food would have to be special! We pride ourselves on offering great home cooked food, to a dinner party standard. So as well as a great combination of tastes you also need to have a focus on good presentation.

Both of you need to be warm, engaging personalities who enjoy looking after people and who would relish creating a home from home atmosphere in the chalet.

The Dolomites in the winter

Qualifications & other paperwork:

Although the job is based in Italy you would need to have the legitimate right to work in the UK. Practically this means you would both need to have:

  • A British National Insurance Number
    • You would also have to be working in the UK for at least two months before the job started, under National Insurance Legislation.
  • A British Bank account into which we could pay your wages

Qualifications / Certificates Needed

  • Current First Aid certificates
  • Current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificates

Both of these can be done online if you don't already have them.

The Package

As well as the weekly wage of £120 per person per week we provide you with all meals (except on the day off) accommodation, travel to and from resort, medical insurance, ski hire and a Dolomiti Superski Season pass, which encompasses 1200 km of piste and 450 lifts.

There are opportunities to stay on for the summer season when we run the same Alpine Chalets for hill walkers, climbers and cyclists etc. In fact, many of our staff come back to do multiple consecutive seasons with us, summer and winter.
