Role Description: Chalet Manager

 

Our Chalet Managers take pride in overseeing and delivering the highest standards of customer service to our guests on a daily basis. They confidently lead the service of fine dining style dinners including the preparation of cocktails and the pairing of wines.

 

As an extension of the Concierge service, the Chalet Manager liaises with the company's external Concierge team prior to guests’ arrival and proactively continues the service once guests are in resort. Consequently, the Chalet Manager becomes the focal point for our guest throughout their stay.

 

Our Chalet Managers takes responsibility for the care and management of our luxury properties; their overall daily presentation and accountability for their contents as well as the Chalets associated luxury vehicles. Entrusted with expenditures relating to the property, its vehicles and the delivery of food and beverage services, the Chalet Manager continuously provides accurate accounts as well as completing weekly paperwork requirements in a timely manner, adhering to company systems at all times.

 

Working alongside the Chef and managing the Assistant Manager plus an external Housekeeper and Driver, the Chalet Manager encourages and supports their junior team members by sharing their knowledge and skills. The Chalet Manager will be required to drive clients, support daily cleaning and kitchen clean downs as well as snow clearing where appropriate applying a sense of ‘team spirit’ in everything they do.

Role Description: Chalet Manager

 

Essential Attributes:

 

·       At least one previous ski season

·       Previous employment/extensive relevant experience in a comparable hospitality environment, demonstrating excellent customer service skills

·       Previous position of team leadership and management

·       Ability to prioritise and delegate tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner

·       Ability to lead a team by example, provide motivation and deal with challenging situations

·       Proven organisational skills and practical hands-on, problem-solving approach

·       Flexibility – able to cope well with varied and changing tasks and environments

·       Basic French language skills and desire to improve

·       Understanding of wines and food

·       Some bar and cocktail skills

·       Computer literate

·       Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills - proficient in English

·       Organised and well-presented with an excellent eye for detail

·       Physically fit and able to cope with the demands of the role

·       Affinity with our brand and the luxury travel industry

·       Full, clean, driving license valid within the EU and held for at least 2 years with regular driving experience

·       EU Passport and/or the right to live and work in France

 

Desirable Attributes:

 

·       Previous experience in a 5 star hotel or comparable hospitality environment

·       Previous winter season team management for a direct competitor

·       Knowledge of the ski area(s) in which we operate

·       Conversational/fluent French language skills

·       Educated to degree level

·       Access to own laptop capable of accessing our web-based management system

 

Role Specification:

 

Accountabilities & Working Relationships:

·       Is assigned to work in one or more of the company’s locations which may include an extended period in the French Alps.

·       Reports first to the Operations Manager and then the Company Directors.

·       Six days per week with increased hours on changeover days.

·       One full day-off per week – this may not be on the same day as other members of staff.

·       Hours variable dependent on the schedule of guests and the tasks requiring completion each day – the role will not always follow a routine pattern of hours and as such will include work on weekends and public holidays.

 

Customer Service:

·       Prepares fully in advance of guests’ arrival - liaising with the Operations Manager and Concierge Manager to be informed of all advance requests, chalet set-up etc. Liaises with chef to complete pre-arrival menu consultation, briefs Chalet Team.

·       Creates and maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the chalet with acute attention to detail in all aspects of presentation and service

·       Develops and maintains a close relationship with guests each week, keeping them well informed of all events/relevant information and carrying out concierge requests in a timely manner to ensure they experience the best possible holiday experience

·       Communicates with the Operations Manager and Company Directors as required – is always aware of any problems/concerns be that of the company or guests, escalating issues quickly to the relevant management along with suggested solutions.

·       Ensures that all guests experience flawless customer service throughout their stay in resort.

·       Creates and maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the chalet with an acute attention to detail in all aspects of presentation and service.

·       Proactively solicits and relays any guest feedback, sales or concierge requirements to the appropriate Manager in a timely manner.

·       Tailors their service style, delivery and timing to individual guest requirements.

 

Food Preparation/Meal Service:

·       Acts as the primary front of house manager – sets the standard for and leads the team in the service of breakfast, afternoon tea and a formal evening meal.

·       Takes time to understand both food and beverage menus, liaising with company sommelier as necessary to make suitable wine recommendations to guests including the sale of a la carte wine and preparation of daily cocktails.

·       Serves all food and beverages in the correct style, such as utilising classic silver-service techniques, serving wines at the optimal temperature or garnishing cocktails appropriately.

·       Ensures that high levels of food hygiene during all preparation/service tasks are adhered to by the whole Chalet Team.

·       Assists the Chalet Manager and Chef in the service of breakfast, afternoon tea and a formal evening meal.

·       Supports the Chalet Chef with washing up and kitchen cleaning.

·       Responsible for restrictions of licensing within the chalet – alcohol must not be served to minors under 18, even in presence of parents/guardians.

·       Assists in the preparation of guests’ breakfast on the Chef’s day off.

 

Administration:

·       Responsible for the completion of start and end of season inventories for their chalet.

·       Responsible for weekly stock takes of beverages and cleaning supplies and weekly shopping.

·       Record expenditure and manage budgets in line with company procedures.

·       Keeps accurate records for guest billing – e.g. wine and concierge sales.

·       Maintains weekly guest diary to contribute to client profiles.

·       Attends weekly Resort Management meeting as led by the Operations Manager

 

Team Management:

·       Plays an important role in the training, development and performance reviews of each member of the chalet team – during pre-season training and throughout the season, with support from Operation Manager/Directors.

·       Manages the chalet team as a whole, ensuring each member carries out their role according to company standards as thoroughly and efficiently as possible, leading by example in terms of 5* customer service and exceptional hospitality skills.

·       Holds regular weekly staff meetings, briefing chalet team on guest itineraries and wider matters

·       During low-occupancy weeks work alongside the Management Team to complete wider tasks within the company.

 

Driving:

·       Is part of a weekly driving rota to to provide an in-resort driving service using company vehicles (typical Volkswagen Caravelle’s or similar) - practical driver training shall be provided.

·       Drives with the utmost care and attention at all times - adopts a defensive driving style and always adheres to traffic regulations - reports any incidents, however minor, immediately to the Management Team.

·       Before driving, always checks the vehicle to ensure it is in roadworthy condition, is immaculately clean, and also suitably stocked with guest supplies (e.g. water, tissues, piste maps etc.).

·       Always completes vehicle logbooks.

 

Housekeeping:

·       Ultimately responsible for excellent standards of cleanliness and maintenance of the property and all contents – addresses issues quickly and pro-actively to ensure the property is maintained in the best possible condition.

·       On changeover day works as part of the team to ensure the chalet is cleaned and presented to the highest standards and ready to welcome guests – ensures that standard is maintained throughout the guest’s stay.

·       Reports any matters concerning chalet maintenance/damage/health & safety/food hygiene following Company procedure

·       Willing to assist in all chalet tasks, as part of the team, including but not limited to housekeeping, daily spa maintenance and food preparation.

 

General:

·       Has a flexible ‘can do’ attitude to their work adapting to the needs of the company and the guests.

·       Makes a concerted effort to minimise any damages within both guest and staff properties at all times - in the event of any incidents makes a concerted effort to remedy the problem and immediately reports the event to the appropriate management.

·       Keeps up immaculate personal presentation and personal hygiene regardless of work being carried out.

·       During low-occupancy weeks works alongside the Management Team to complete wider tasks within the company.

·       Assists in snow clearing when required.

·       Maintains spa and jacuzzi chemicals and equipment as per documented company procedure.

·       This role requires flexibility and completion of other duties may be required at the discretion of the Management Team.
