We are looking for a personable and experienced chef and host couple for a privately-owned luxury ski chalet in Les Houches, Chamonix. The chalet is primarily used by the owners but will also be rented to guests on a fully catered basis for certain weeks during the season.

This is the perfect role for a hardworking couple with experience in fine-dining, who is also outgoing, enthusiastic and keen to enjoy a ski season.

You will be part of a four-person team, working alongside a chalet manager and driver.

Responsibilities

 Chef:

  • creating menus on a weekly basis, tailored specifically to the guests
  • responsible for offering a cooked breakfast to order, afternoon tea, canapés and formal evening meal
  • catering for all guests special dietary requirements
  • catering for children in the evening (including early dinners when required)
  • maintaining food hygiene, general health & safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas
  • keeping the kitchen clean, tidy and presentable at all times
  • responsible for coordinating staff meals
  • coordinate ordering and buying of food
  • managing the food budget
  • advising on drink requirements and ordering as required and managing drink budget in conjunction with chalet manager
  • working closely with the Chalet Manager and other staff
  • being a customer facing member of the team and presenting the chalet to clients in the best possible manner
  • coordinating activities of the kitchen including food preparation and service
  • training staff to assist and serve
  • training staff to serve breakfast on your day off and to provide emergency cover, if ever required

Host:

  • service of breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meal including service of wines and other beverages
  • daily housekeeping of the whole chalet with support from colleagues
  • assisting with food preparation and washing up
  • welcoming the guests into the chalet on their arrival and ensuring that your guests feel at home in the chalet and feel they are able to seek your assistance with anything that they require
  • proactive communication with guests to ensure all queries are answered and any special requests are met at the earliest opportunity.
  • being the first contact for guest queries, grievances, complaints and maintenance problems and then trying to address these issue and reporting all guest queries, grievances, complaints and maintenance problems to the Chalet Manager
The ideal candidates
  • Experienced in working in a fine-dining environment
  • Confident and outgoing
  • Passionate about both cooking and skiing
  • previous service/waiting experience, silver service training is an advantage
  • previous customer service experience
  • previous experience within the ski industry is an advantage
  • appreciation of the standards expected in a luxury chalet
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • excellent organisation/time management skills
  • conversation French would be a benefit
  • a strong work ethic
  • ability to work well and socialise as part of a team
  • basic cooking skills are a benefit
  • Driving license a benefit

  • Accommodation is by way of a live-in room that will be shared with the host; so if you’re a suitable candidate with a friend or partner that is an experienced host, this would be great
  • 5 ½ days a week – breakfast and dinner service plus preparation of afternoon tea
  • One day off plus a morning off
  • Hours may vary depending on guest requirements but typically 7 – 10 in the morning and 6 – 10 in the evening, shopping and preparation time as required to deliver the service levels expected.
