We are looking for an experienced family friendly chef to join the team at a private chateau in the South of France. Various family and friends visit the holiday home throughout June – September and the chef will be responsible for organising the smooth running of the kitchen and to serve delicious quality meals, with emphasis on fresh produce from the local market and excellent presentation.

The holiday house sleeps up to 14 people. It has a tennis court, swimming pool, and olive grove. It is in five minutes from the town Aix-en-Provence where there is a food market every other day.

Responsibilities

  • You will work alongside the Guardian of the house (who deals with the running of the property and the garden) and his wife (who cleans the house), however, you should be flexible in helping them out too
  • Menu planning – submitting weekly menu plans to those using the house
  • Laying the table for and clearing the table after meals
  • Shopping and placing butcher orders (special dietary requirements need to be considered)
  • Carefully managing stock levels and controlling wastage
  • Submitting weekly accounts
  • Ensuring the kitchen is kept clean at all times, and paying attention to personal hygiene
  • Liaising with the management on a regular basis to discuss any changing guest requirements

Meals that are provided by the chef are as follows:

  • Breakfast – a choice of continental & cooked breakfast (to order);
  • Lunch – salads, cold meats, quiche etc and cheese
  • Children’s tea – children friendly food such as pizza, chicken and rice, fish fingers etc
  • Grown-up Dinner – a three-course menu, with an emphasis on fresh and varied ingredients
The ideal candidate
  • Previous experience of working privately (i.e. a private household/chalet/villa/yacht)
  • Must speak fluent French
  • Drive a car
  • Be family friendly
